About The Host

Allen Niles is the host of D&D informational podcast Outside the Dice, but he’s also so much more than that. A gem of many facets, Niles is a perplexingly complex individual. He is an actor and voice over artist living in Los Angeles. His love of acting began in his early adolescence with stage theatre and would carry on throughout his college career. After graduation, he accepted a job offer working with a children’s theatre on a one-year contract where he would tour various schools, perform in multiple productions, and lead acting workshops. Following the conclusion of his contract, he then sought out work in film, television, and through voice over.

When Allen is not playing pretend for work, he plays pretend for fun as dungeon master or adventurer in multiple D&D campaigns. Allen was first exposed to D&D around 8 years old, where he would fight monsters with his best friend on a light-grey, gridded dungeon map with 2-dimensional circular tokens that depicted monsters or heroes. They had no idea what the rules were, but, still, it was quite fun. That fondness for the high-medieval fantasy genre would eventually lead to Allen actually learning the rules and holding bonafide sessions with his friends. He’s played briefly in 2nd edition, moreso in 3rd and 4th edition, and more so still in 5th edition D&D.

Allen would utilize his extensive knowledge of 5e to rant about all kinds of issues and ideas to his girlfriend, until she finally had enough and he had to create a podcast instead.

The hero we need yet don’t deserve, Allen Niles is truly a marvel of the modern man.
